RECKLESS DRIVING

On November 12 at approximately 11:35 a.m. Officer Timothy Lipka responded to the area of Jefferson Boulevard and Main Avenue for a report of a hit and run crash. Dispatch had advised that the suspect vehicle was a Honda Accord, and that it had struck a Chevrolet Tahoe. The male operator of the suspect vehicle then fled the scene towards Main Avenue.

The reporting party was from City Towing, and advised that one of the employees was chasing the suspect. He was last seen running towards the train tracks behind Auto Zone, and was described as a black male with glasses, wearing jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt. However, the caller then stated that they lost sight of the suspect.

Officer Lipka was dispatched to the area of CVS on Post Road, while Detectives Christopher Lo and Gilda Fortier located a male matching the description of the suspect by CVS at a vehicle, which was an Uber vehicle. The suspect, later identified as Jorden Rose, 26, of 43 Hope Street Apt. 3 in Pawtucket, was detained. It was later determined that Rose had arrest warrants out of the Pawtucket Police Department. He was taken into custody.

During the subsequent investigation, it was determined that Rose had gone into CVS, contacted Uber, and attempted to use the riding service to flee the scene. The outstanding warrants were for domestic strangulation, domestic assault, and domestic disorderly conduct. The victim involved in the accident reportedly positively identified Rose as the operator of the suspect vehicle. There were no injuries reported from either the suspect or from those in the vehicle that was struck.

Rose was taken to police headquarters, where he was booked, processed, and charged with reckless driving, duty to stop-accident resulting in damage to attended vehicle and felony reckless driving as he was convicted of first offence reckless driving previously. He was held awaiting transport to the Third District Court.

SHOPLIFTING

On November 9 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to Macy’s for a shoplifting report. At the scene he met with the reporting party, an employee of the store, who stated that she observed a male, later identified as Rafael Cepeda, 47, of 295 Sayles Street in Providence, select multiple tops and jeans and proceeded to a fitting room.

The woman stated that when he came out of the fitting room the stall was inspected and found to be empty. She added that Cepeda had brought everything out with him and placed some of the items on a rack. When the rack was inspected, it was found that some of the merchandise had sensors, which had been cut off.

Cepeda allegedly then left the store without paying for the merchandise. He was detained by security and escorted to the store’s asset protection office. There, $522 worth of merchandise was reportedly discovered. One of the shirts that had been taken, valued at $125, was damaged and could not be resold.

Cepeda was placed into handcuffs and transported to police headquarters. He was later released with a summons to appear at the Third District Court.

Officer Ryan Shibley responded to the area of 1245 Bald Hill Road on November 8 around 8:31 p.m. for a report of a shoplifting at the Famous Footwear store. Dispatch advised that an employee at the store had observed an adult male and female steal a couple of pairs of shoes and then drive away in what appeared to be a dark green or black Honda Accord.

Officers then searched the surrounding area but could not locate the suspect vehicle. Officer Shibley then responded to Famous Footwear and spoke with the reporting party, who stated that at approximately 8:30 p.m., the man and woman walked into the store. The woman was described as 5’3” in height with blondish/reddish hair pulled into a bun. She appeared to be in her later twenties or early thirties.

The male was described as a white who “looked like he was on drugs” and appeared to be in his later thirties to early forties, was roughly 5’6” in height with short black hair. He was wearing khaki cargo pants with a bluish gray sweatshirt.

The store employee observed the man to be in the process of stealing a pair of woman’s burgundy Nike sneakers and had them under his sweatshirt. The employee then said she poked what appeared to be the shoes under the sweatshirt. The male suspect then allegedly said that the employee better get out of his face, and the man and woman then left the store.

The female suspect was seen to have a pair of gray flat bottom Timberland shoes in her green handbag as she left the store. Both suspects ran to the parking lot and then drove away. A registration of the car was unable to be obtained. The total loss to the store was $134.98. A report was taken for documentation purposes in the event that the two individuals come back into the store at a later time.

Detective Matthew Smith responded to the JC Penny located at 400 Bald Hill Road on November 2 at 6:48 p.m. for a report of an adult female in custody for shoplifting.

At the scene he met with an asset protection agent, who stated that at approximately 5:39 p.m. she observed a woman, later identified as Tahiana Espinal, 31, of 575 Dyer Avenue Apt. J164 in Cranston, proceed to the watch section of the store and select tree watches. She then used the elevator and when she exited she only had one watch in her hand.

A check of the elevator did not find the watches. Espinal then went to the children’s section, where she selected several items and concealed them. She did the same after visiting the woman’s department before exiting the store. She was confronted outside and then brought back into the store’s asset protection office, where a total of $425.79 worth of merchandise was recovered.

Espinal then was transported to police headquarters, where she was charged with shoplifting. She was then released with a Third District Court Summons.

VANDALISM

At approximately 4:24 p.m. on November 10, Officer Maxwell Neiley responded to Dickerson Brothers Marina on Arnold’s Neck Road for a report of an attempted entry into a 1988 Carver Montego Cruiser.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, who explained that he believed someone had tampered with his powerboat that was in storage by the seawall. The reporting party showed the officer the stern of the boat where a suspect had broken the white canvas that was protecting the boat and climbed aboard.

The man then showed the officer the door that led to the cabin of the boat, which had been damaged and unhinged from its tracks. However, it appeared that an entrance was never made and the contents inside had remained untouched. There did not appear to be anything missing, however, the damaged door is now jammed.

The boat owner said the damage was “priceless” as the parts damaged are specific to the boat. The reporting party stated he wished to press charges if a suspect was found, and the report was forwarded to detectives for follow up.
