For the 13th summer in a row, the students from the Cranston Parks and Recreation's Summer Theater Camp put on two evenings of singing, dancing and theatrics for audiences of family and friends at the Hope Highlands Middle School auditorium.

Under the direction of program director Meg Miele, a crew of counselors, volunteers, music director Lydel Hall, show director Julia Landry and costume coordinator Johnny Cagnno, dozens of students spent just five days auditioning for roles, practicing songs and parts and learning dances in order to put on a full show at the conclusion of the week. Two shows took place using two different casts of students, with one on Friday night and one on Saturday night. Therefore, two separate shows were practiced all throughout the week, rotating stage time with the blue cast of students practicing for Friday night's show and the red cast students practicing for Saturday night's show.

"The Jungle Book" tells the story of Mowgli, a "man cub" raised in the wild, who struggles with the decision as to whether or not to return to civilization with other humans rather than trying to sustain beyond childhood in the wild. Through songs such as "The Bear Necessities," "I Wan'Na Be Like You," and the "Elephant Brigade," the actors and actresses show Mowgli's progression from refusing to go back to the humans, to his final decision and departure from the wild and ends with a rousing repeat performance of "The Bear Necessities."
