As of June 26, the Cranston Swim Club will be ready to help students in various age groups reach their summer goals. Using the Park View Middle School Pool, Coach Bob Bouchard, well-known in Cranston and beyond for his decades of coaching experience, will be welcoming students who wish to get in shape for their age group or for their high school swim team. He will be offering general fitness and dryland workouts as well, including stretching and core strengthening exercises, and introducing teens to biking, running and swimming; the three triathlon sports.
In addition to helping students reach their own fitness goals, Coach Bouchard is also hoping to help give back to his Park View community, and has a few goals of his own. Having worked in the PVMS pool facility for nearly 30 years now, he has seen the space day in and day out, and he feels it could use a facelift. It is his hope that he can help to contribute to that goal through the income that is generated through the summer programming held there. Although an overhaul of the actual pools was done in recent years, the blocks, bleachers and walls need updates, from painting to replacing, in some cases. Bouchard hopes to leave the facility in better shape than its current state, when he retires at some point in the future.
The summer session practices start on June 26 and run through August 3. Students are separated into two groups: the High School/Senior Group, which runs from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the Middle School/Junior Group that runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. In addition, Learn to Swim programs are now being offered at the Park View Pool as well, at various levels. Bouchard has been coaching swim teams, running lifeguard certification classes and other types of swim programs locally in Cranston and in other parts of the state for years, and said he is happy to be able to bring these programs to the Park View Pool as a new option for the Cranston community.
