Daughter shines in role of bazaar chair

In 2010 Emily Seddon set out to raise money to purchase six new liquid wax torches the acolytes use at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, located in Apponaug.

She held a spaghetti supper, which was an overwhelming success. Her role at the church has grown. She assists Rev. Scott R. Lee as a Chalice Bearer and Acolyte, carries the cross during pre- and post-service processions and assists with the youth group, took on much, much larger role that packed pressure aplenty.

Then Seddon stepped up to chair the annual St. Barnabas Church Holiday Bazaar, a position her mother Heidi – who performs many duties at the Episcopal parish most notably as Senior Warden of the Vestry –held for the past half-dozen years.

“There is some pressure this year,” Seddon said while adding, “It’s our church’s greatest fundraiser and I certainly want to deliver a successful event, but I have some big shoes to fill.”

Armed with her youthful and spirited energy, Seddon scored high marks and the overall bazaar drew rave reviews from many people who commented on just how well Schweitzer Hall was decorated and transformed into a Winter Wonderland and offered mega prizes, raffles, baked goods, jewelry and raffle items.

Meanwhile, Heidi Seddon said: “Having my daughter Emily chair this year’s bazaar was nothing less than awesome! She put in a lot of time and effort organizing, planning, double checking and making sure everything and everyone was on track. I’m so proud of her for stepping up and of her great success. Her efforts definitely paid off, and she should be proud of herself too, just as I am!”

Emily Seddon said, “I may be the chairperson, but this wouldn’t be what it is without dozens of volunteers who have pledged their untiring help and support. I am so grateful to have such tremendous support from our parishioners, family and friends.”

She said she was apprehensive before the doors opened Saturday, but as the day went on and people filled the church hall, Seddon was glad she took the position and answered a call to serve God within her church.
