Derek N. Andersen, 83, a Warwick resident since 1968, died March 31, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Margaret S. (Smith) Andersen.
He retired in 1995 as a grocer, for the former Almacs Stores. Active for many years in the civic affairs of the City of Warwick, Derek served as President of the Apponaug Village Association, an Election Moderator, Chairman of the Ward 8, Democratic City Committee, member of the Warwick Land trust, associate member of Lodge 7, FOP, and as president of Local 328 Retirees Club.
Besides his beloved wife, Derek leaves his devoted children: Pamela Andersen, Robin Andersen, Lori J. Banno, wife of the late George Banno, Lisa Harrison and her husband Bill and Kristen L. Cobb and her husband Thomas. He was the cherished grandfather of Sean Banno, Kendall Harrison, Sidney Harrison, Taylor Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell (Brittany), Shannon Cobb and Lauren Cobb. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Brooke Mitchell.
His funeral service will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Urquhart- Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.
