Donald D. Kennedy, 83, of West Warwick, formerly Warwick, passed away at West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Born in Providence, he was the husband of Doris (Flanagan) Kennedy for 53 years.

He was the son of the late J. Louis and Dorothy (Dana) Kennedy. He was a graduate of La Salle Academy and Providence College. Donald served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Lake Champlain (CVA-39) during the Korean War. Donald was an avid sports fan who enjoyed many years watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins.

He was the beloved father of Dennis and his wife Ginny, Paul, and James, and the adoring “Papa” of Faith and Daniel. He is survived by his sister Charlotte Allienello of Narragansett, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Kennedy, Geraldine Lannon, Josephine Baker, and Virginia Buchanan.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the devotion and care provided to Donald during his final days. We also wish to thank Dr. Daniel Lukowicz and the staff at the ICU at Kent Hospital for the excellent care he received, and to Father David Ricard for the spiritual comfort provided to Donald during his visits.

His funeral will be held Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 9:00a.m. from the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 am in St. Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick. Burial in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South Country Trail Exeter, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7p.m. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
