Donald E. Dunning

Donald E. Dunning, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Horrocks) Dunning of Warwick, RI for 49 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James S. and Beatrice M. (Bedson) Dunning. Don proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Afterwards, he continued his father's company, Dunning Lumber, was an accountant for Wells Fargo, and completed his career as a social worker, retiring from the State of Rhode Island after 32 years of service.

He lived a Christian life and saw the good in all. Don volunteered at the RI Food Bank and other small agencies where he gave hope to those in need. He received several accolades for his dedicated work throughout those years, including the Wall of Tolerance recognition. He was a parishioner of Cornerstone Faith Methodist Church in Coventry.

He was the husband of Debbie Dunning of Warwick; father of six: Donna Laptew (Michael) of North Kingstown, RI, Donald K. Dunning of East Providence, RI, the late James S. Dunning, Donald E. Dunning, Jr. of New London, CT, Margaret M. Dunning of Warwick, RI and Edward J. Dunning (Enida) of Groton, CT; grandfather of thirteen: Thomas Goss, Kerri Dunning, D.J. Dunning, Jennifer Williams, James Dunning, Brandon Dunning, Elizabeth Rodyn, Justin Medeiros, Troy Dunning, Tanner Dunning, Devlin Dunning, Mercy Dunning and Haris Dunning; great-grandfather of four: Clay Dunning, Ruby Hope Dunning, Joshua Rodyn and Terrianna Williams.. He was the brother of the late Kenneth, James and Robert Dunning.

His funeral service will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI on Saturday, January 12 at 9:00 a.m. followed with burial at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Calling hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
