Donald F. Kennedy Sr., Detective, Sergeant, PPD, (RET.) 85, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan M. (Riggs) Kennedy.

He was a son of the late Walter T. and Myrtis A. (Greene) Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Providence Police Department for 20 years, and retired as Detective Sergeant in 1973. He served as the Chief of Police in Burrillville and was later employed as an investigator in the Medicaid Fraud Department of the Attorney General for 20 years before retiring. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine Corp. Veteran of the Korean War and held the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Kennedy was a member of the Providence FOP, the Providence Police Association, and attended Bryant College.

He is survived by sons: Donald F. Kennedy, Jr., wife, Patricia, Paul J. Kennedy, Edward S. Kennedy, wife, Carolyn, and the late Robert J. Kennedy and Kevin M. Kennedy. Father-in-law of Audrey Kennedy and Gloria Kennedy. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was the great-grandfather of the late Kendrah Kennedy and the brother of the late Walter T. Kennedy, Jr. and John A. Kennedy.

His funeral was held Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Church, Fair Street at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors was in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours were Monday 4-8 p.m.
