Doris Thompson Cann, 90, formerly of Mullen Road, died Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Kent Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late George S. Cann.

She was the mother of Donna Cann Nelson & her husband David of Cranston and Debra C. Brissette-Fortune & her husband Daniel of Warwick and a devoted “Bama” to six grandchildren: Andrew Nelson, Dacia Werchadlo, Holly Nelson, Aubrie Blanchette, Jarrod Blanchette and Adam Brissette and to four great-grandchildren: Andrew & Alicia Nelson, Natalia & Grant Werchadlo. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond and William Thompson.

Born in Providence, the daughter of the late John J. and Esther E. (Anderson) Thompson, she graduated from Cranston High School, Class of 1944 and had lived in Warwick for over 50 years. Doris began working at age 16 at the Outlet Store in Downtown Providence. After being there two years, she left retail and worked for ten years as a secretary at Manufacturers Mutual Insurance Company. She later worked for seventeen years as a secretary at the former Howard W. Meegan Company of Warwick. She loved to play cards, especially bridge and hi-lo-jack and loved spending time at the beach. She enjoyed crocheting and often went tenpin bowling.

Doris had a good sense of humor, even though she tended to be a very quiet woman. She was very thoughtful of others and also very "Swedish". She became much more social making many new friends at Brookdale West Bay. She played cards and Bingo often. She was also very welcoming to the new residents and would try to help them with their transition to their new home.

Her life will be celebrated at calling hours on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the morning at 9:30. Burial will follow at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery in North Kingstown.
