Dorothy Clarinda (Brayton) Macreading, 96, a longtime resident of Warwick, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019. She joins her beloved husband of 74 years, Howard “Bud” Macreading.

Born in Brockton, Mass. on October 22, 1922, she was the younger daughter of Arthur and Matilda (Simpson) Brayton and is predeceased by her sister, Hazel (Brayton) Asselin. After graduating from Lockwood High School, Dorothy was employed at Apponaug Printing Works and subsequently at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station during WWII. She also was employed for a time in the 1970s at Edwards Electronics in Cranston.

Dorothy dedicated herself to taking care of her family and home (built by her father in the early 1930s), was active in Warwick Central Baptist Church and loved working in her flower gardens, which she “brought in” each spring, tended all summer, and put to rest in the fall.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Susan Ramsay (Robert), her son, Mark (Patti), her niece, Marilyn Asselin, her half-sister, Nancy (Brayton) Decesare, her nephews, Gordon and Robert Allen, her grandchildren, Heather (Ramsay) Elliot, Sarah and Scott Macreading, and great-grandson Connor Elliott.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the doctors, nurses, staff and caregivers at Kent Regency and Kindred Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Dorothy during her stay there.

A celebration of her life will be celebrated at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Warwick Central Baptist Church, 3270 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886.
