Dorothy E. (Cunha) Budlong, 97, of Warwick passed peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Brentwood Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was the wife of Arthur E. Budlong until his passing in 1974 and the companion of the late Karl Soderquist for many years.
Dotty and Arthur met at the bingo at Norwood Grange and married on November 11, 1941, just before the outbreak of WWII of which Arthur became stationed at Quonset Point in the US Navy. Dorothy made many a Sunday dinner for the fellow sailors Arthur would bring home each weekend. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family.
Dorothy is survived by a loving daughter: Christine Bigelli (Richard) of Narragansett; six grandchildren: Richard Bigelli Jr., Melissa Murphy, Brandy Eccleston, Brett, Brian and Ryan Budlong; and eight great-grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Gigi.” She was the mother of the late Dennis Budlong and sister of the late John and William Cunha.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11 a.m in the Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
