Ex-Pat Simpson selected to play in Hansen Bowl
Former Pilgrim football standout Blake Simpson, now a senior at Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass., has been selected to participate in the Hansen Bowl All-Star Game. The bowl is played in Virginia Beach, Va., and welcomes the top small-college football players from around the nation.
Simpson, a 2008 graduate of Pilgrim, was a second-team all-conference tight end for Anna Maria this past season. Simpson, a 6-foot-3, 225-pounder, finished his senior season with 12 catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
Simpson was also an honorable-mention all-conference pick as a junior.
The Hansen Bowl will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. It features All-American and all-conference selections from Division II, Division III and NAIA schools.
Tomaselli a national leader
Briana Tomaselli, former Pilgrim standout, has been mainly known for her goal-scoring ability at Newbury College, but she received national recognition for assists. This past season, Tomaselli led the nation in assists per game.
Tomaselli, who has already set the women’s record for career goals with 40, averaged .86 assists a game this past season.
Even though she is only a sophomore, she is on pace to break the all-time record for goals at Newbury, which is held by John Mawson, who has 55. Tomaselli also has an impressive 93 career points, which is also a school record.
