Gail F. (Larrivee) Grimes, 75, of Warwick, died Friday, August 30, 2019 at Kent Hospital. She was the wife of John J. Grimes, to whom she was married for 53 years.

A daughter of the late Oliver and Catherine (Fay) Larrivee, she had been a Warwick resident for 50 years. A graduate of RI Nursing School, Gail was employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 20 years. She was an avid competitive bowler for many years and was unbeatable at card games. Her creativity was displayed in her beautiful and unique Easter baskets and Christmas stockings that she made for family and close friends. Her other creative endeavors were displayed at many fairs and events throughout the years. Gail and John loved to travel and did so extensively throughout the United States. They went camping and fishing every year. Gail was a passionate lover of wildlife. In addition to her household pets (dogs, cats and a trio of African Grey parrots) she fed, housed and nurtured birds in homemade birdhouses in which many wild birds made their home. She fed squirrels and other wild creatures needing nourishment and protection.

She always seemed to know intuitively when someone was in need of support and encouragement. Gail’s courage during the last years of her life was exemplary as she struggled through several difficult medical issues. Gail’s strongest trait was her unswerving faith. She was a weekly communicant of Saint Clement Church.

Gail leaves a sister, Linda Rogers of Florida, a niece, Jill Ianone, and a nephew, David Rogers. She was the sister of the late Jane Spinoza and Maryann Larrivee. Gail was loved by all who knew her especially her four sisters-in-law and her brother-in-law.

Her funeral services will be private.
