Gas prices down two cents, says AAA

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down two cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA Northeast’s January 27 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.54 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is three cents above the national average of $2.51. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 20 cents lower at $2.34 per gallon.

“Increased total domestic supplies of gasoline have helped to ease pump prices,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of AAA Public and Government Affairs. “Typically, we see lower demand during this time of year. When combined with high supply levels, pump prices usually decrease in response.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 30 cents, from a low of $2.39 to a high of $2.69. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Remember to slow down and move over for any emergency vehicles on the side of the road.
