George W. “Joe” Gange

George W. “Joe” Gange, 88, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center. He was the loving husband of the late Ellen M. (Dwyer) Gange who passed away on June 22, 2017. They were married for 65 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George W. Gange Sr., and Elizabeth (Brown) Gange.

George served his country proudly with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Joe was a 1953 graduate of Bryant College. He worked as a correctional officer for the State of Rhode Island for many years before retiring in 1993. George was a lifelong resident of Warwick. He was a professional who donated his time to several organizations, such as the Fraternal Order of Police #7, F.O.P ACI Lodge #45, American Legion Airport Post # 61, National Association of Parliamentarians and was a coordinator of the Hi-Lo Jack tournament at the Buttonwoods Senior Center.

He is survived by two grandchildren, Ellen-Bridget Keane and Jay Keane, and was the father of the late Ellen M. Packer (Ret. WPD) of Johnston. Joe was also the brother of the late Ralph B. Gange.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 9:30 a.m., in Saints Rose & Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick, to which relatives and friends are invited. Private burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be respectfully omitted.
