To the Editor:
I laughed out loud when I read Chairman McNamara’s addressing the problem of our tragic statewide public education system. In reality, sorrow and anger were the true reactions.
The chairman of the Democratic party in Rhode Island has been a member of the legislature for nearly a quarter of a century, yet he insists on continuing to insult the intelligence of the citizens of Warwick and our state that he and “the Party” have a “new” remedy for properly educating our young.
McNamara’s Democrat party has ruled this state for nearly a century. They alone have been given the authority and responsibility for generations to educate our children and history will judge their legacy to be a dismal failure.
Please, Mr. Chairman, after all these years in Rhode Island’s version of the POLITBURO, as the late Lee Iacocca once opined, lead, follow, or get out of the way. You have woefully proven you cannot accomplish the first, so choose to follow or, preferably, get out of the way. Our children have suffered enough.

Dear F.B.Sarno,
Couldn't agree with you more about the ineffectiveness of the R.I. Legislature. Joe MsNamara however, is an exception. When I ran for Mayor, he made a point to get to know me, had many intelligent questions and would always extend a sincere handshake and smile whenever he saw me. Not so with others who live under the thumb of the PAC's that elected them. To them, I represented an obstacle. (I still do). To Joe Mac, I represented a different idea that he was willing to listen to, even if he disagreed with me. That is the sign of a true leader. We need more "Joe McNamara's" in the State House.

Rhode Island needs a complete transformation. Everything leveled and start over with a plan that has proven to work. We can't get it done the way things are right now. We need our politicians ready to put education first and fight for it until it happens. Parents need to fight for a better future for their children and be a part of the equation. There are far too many obstacles in the way presently to make any substantial way. I would say that despite the writer placing all the blame on one party, we all share the blame on the dismal state of the RI School System. Time to start a Revolution!

You say you have "no ambition to be in politics" but I suggest you rethink that. You obviously care. You have the energy. You have the brains.

Think about what office you would like to run for because I think you should, and I, for one, would vote for someone like you. You sound like the kind of non-politician Warwick Needs. You're right. It IS "time to start a revolution."
