Getting out the message

Neighboring Roman Catholic parishes in Warwick – St. Catherine’s and SS Rose and Clement – have joined forces to invite area residents through a unique medium for their message: a full-sized billboard located at the railroad overpass on Route 117 in Apponaug. The concept was the creation of the SS Rose and Clement parish Evangelization Team, but its location midway between the two parishes prompted SS Rose and Clement pastor Fr. Edward Wilson Jr. to invite St. Catherine’s pastor, Fr. Richard M. Friedrichs, to make the effort a neighborly one. Fr. Wilson said that the billboard is a reminder that the core of the Gospel is an invitation for everyone to divine love. Fr. Wilson added that both pastors were happy to show unity between neighboring parishes – “that the Church is one and united in its mission to bring this Gospel of love to all people.” The timing of the billboard, which will be in place until the end of February, is also meant as a preparation for the Season of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13.
