Girls on the Run Rhode Island 5K set for May 20

Girls on the Run Rhode Island will host its 6th Annual 5K event on Sunday, May 20 at Colt State Park in Bristol. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in 3rd to 8th grade. During the ten-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.

Participation in the 5K event on May 20 is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run Rhode Island. The 5K course is USATF certified and finishes along the bay.

Last season’s 5K event brought together over 1,000 participants including program participants, their family and friends and community members. 5K pre-registration cost is $32 (day of $35) and includes an event shirt.

Pre-registration packet pick up will be on Saturday, May 19 at Jackrabbit in Providence. The 5K will begin at 10AM on May 20 at Colt State Park in Bristol and early arrival is suggested for the free kids’ activities and 1-Mile Family Fun Run starting at 9AM. For more information about the event, how to register and volunteer opportunities, visit www.gotrri.org/Spring-5K.
