USA Today has named T.F. Green Airport a winner in the 2020 “USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice” travel award contest for “Best Small Airport” in the nation. Rhode Island’s international airport placed 2nd in the nationwide poll after being nominated as one of the Top 20 airports by a panel of travel experts.

“We are grateful for the tremendous support shown by Rhode Islanders and throughout the nation who value the ease and economy of air travel from T.F. Green Airport,” Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation said in a statement. “We are honored that so many of our patrons took the time to vote in support of Green Airport and we take pride that our commitment to improve services has been recognized by travel experts and passengers alike.”

“Every Rhode Islander knows that flying through T.F. Green is a fast, convenient and affordable way to travel, and it’s exciting to see our airport recognized nationally,” said Governor Gina M. Raimondo. “Businesses want to grow and people want to live in well-connected communities, and I look forward to continuing to support the airport as it expands and innovates.”

“Like many Warwick residents, I was proud to cast my vote for the airport we know in our hearts is the best small airport in the country,” said Warwick Mayor Joseph J. Solomon. “With T.F. Green’s ranking, travelers across the country will now recognize what we’ve always known – T.F. Green is truly one of the best airports in the country and a hassle-free gateway to this region.”

"We are simply overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we received from the traveling public, both here in Rhode Island and elsewhere,” said Jonathan Savage, chair of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation’s board of directors.

According to USA Today’s “Ten Best” website: “Loyal fans of T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island love it as an alternative to Boston Logan for its lack of crowds and lines and quick access to Providence and Boston via a dedicated train station. It’s also an excellent option for travelers heading to Cape Cod.” T.F. Green Airport will also begin upgrades and renovations in its terminal starting in the summer of 2020, including a selection of new restaurants and shops for travelers.

T.F. Green Airport also offered its congratulations to Huntsville International Airport in Alabama, which took top honors after spending much of the duration of the contest behind T.F. Green Airport. Other regional airport nominees bested by T.F. Green Airport include Bangor International Airport (#5) in Maine and Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire (#9).
