To the Editor:

As a long-time reader of the Beacon, I have a complaint. In this article (Trump, anti Trump Marchers) Tuesday, March 28 and other articles and letters to the editor. I detect an allowing of

language I find somewhat offensive and not serving the public good. The need for the offensive language used by Mr. DePetro to be printed in the Beacon escapes me. Talk about hateful, dehumanizing language. The man is a hatemonger and has the same right to express himself as those people he insulted and maligned, but do we have to read it in the Beacon article?

The Beacon is giving a hateful person a platform to spew his poison. I ask what is to be served by this writer quoting verbatim such a person?

I would also say to Mr. Trillo, you are witnessing the result of hate and hateful speech and practices, and to try and suppress people who object to it is un-American, but so common these days.

Actually Mr. Amoroso, it is you who is being un-American. The speech that needs protecting is hurtful or hateful speech and other types of speech people deem hurtful or hateful. That is, after all, an opinion. Free speech would never be our first amendment if our founders were told by the British that they could not speak ill about the King of England and get away with it. Our founders were very hateful and hurtfull to King George, calling him vile names. What ever happened to 'I may not like what you say but I'll defend your right to say it with my life'? Nobody rejects flowery speech Mr. Amoroso. It is always disagreeable speech that needs protecting. Get it?
