Bishop Hendricken will be hosting a special Jersey Retirement Ceremony for former Hawk standout baseball player Thomas Pannone, class of 2012, on Wednesday, January 9th.

After earning Rhode Island state championship MVP honors, Pannone was drafted in 2012 out of high school by the Chicago Cubs in the 33rd round as an outfielder. He did not sign and chose to attend the College of Southern Nevada. Pannone stopped playing outfield in college, and focused solely on pitching. In his lone season of college baseball, he posted a 6–2 record, and a 1.84 earned run average.

Pannone was then selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 9th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft. He quickly rose through their minor league system earning all-star honors in 2014, 2016, and 2017 and was traded on July 17, 2017 to the Toronto Blue Jays. He made his first MLB start with the Blue Jays on August 22, 2018 and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against the Baltimore Orioles. Pannone totaled 12 appearances for the Blue Jays, recording a record of 4-1 in 43 innings.

Pannone is one of twenty-eight Hendricken baseball players drafted into the MLB and is the third Hendricken baseball player to have his jersey retired. He will join current Minnesota Twins manager, Rocco Baldelli '00, who wore #22 and was drafted in the 1st round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and current free agent, Jeff Beliveau '05, who wore #11 and was drafted in the 18th round by the Chicago Cubs.

Hendricken will officially retire his #3 jersey at halftime of the Hendricken vs. LaSalle basketball game in Pepin Gymnasium on January 9th. Guests are invited to attend a pre-game reception in Pannone's honor in Founder's Hall at 6:30 pm. The game will immediately follow at 7:00 pm.
