Hiring Our Heroes veterans job fair planned at Warwick Mall

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and its local partners will host Hiring Our Heroes - Warwick, a hiring fair for veterans and military spouses, on Friday, October 20 at the Warwick Mall. More than 50 local and national employers are expected to participate with jobs available for veterans and military spouses of all ranks and levels of experience.

Before the hiring fair, an 8:30 a.m. employment workshop for job seekers will cover a variety of topics including resume building and review, networking, and interview tips, along with how to use LinkedIn for Veterans. Immediately following the workshop, volunteer career coaches will be available to all

job seekers who want to develop an elevator pitch, participate in a mock interview, and create a more effective resume. At 9:00 a.m., employers are invited to a brunch and learn focusing on best practices for recruiting, hiring, and retaining veteran and military spouses. The hiring fair will run until 2 p.m.

Launched in 2011, Hiring Our Heroes is a nationwide initiative to help veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses find meaningful employment. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and other strategic partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors, Hiring Our Heroes has helped hundreds of thousands of veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment through more than 1,000 job fairs in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, and on military installations overseas.

The last two fairs in Warwick have resulted in over 100 veterans receiving job offers as a direct result from attending the fair and being interviewed on the spot.

“The great part of the Hiring Our Heroes job fairs is that in order for a company to have a booth they are required to have open positions on the day of the event.  Having jobs available the day of the job fair means that these companies will conduct interviews on site and will make job offers to qualified candidates the same day at the job fair,” said Steve McAllister of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who is also the Ward 7 Warwick councilman.
