House passes Langevin, King bill to create Task Force to combat opioid trafficking

Posted

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), a senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, issued the following statement after the Joint Task Force to Combat Opioid Trafficking Act, legislation he introduced with Congressman Peter King (R-NY), passed the House of Representatives.

“Rhode Island has the ninth highest rate of opioid-related deaths in the country, and I have heard over and over from people whose lives have been devastated due to overdose. Stopping the opioid overdose epidemic requires a comprehensive approach, including efforts to prevent these substances from arriving in our communities in the first place. The establishment of a Joint Task Force on opioids with the Department of Homeland Security will help prevent fentanyl and other opioids from entering the United States from overseas. With this new authority, DHS will be able to ensure unity of effort across its component agencies and better coordinate with private sector partners to achieve a more effective response in halting the inflow of opioids. I thank Congressman King and Senator McCaskill for their support and leadership in moving this bill, and I look forward to its speedy consideration in the Senate.”

Congressman Jim Langevin. One of the hardest working members of the House of Representatives.

About 17 years ago I wrote legislation that would eliminate the "bait-and-switch" tactics of some of my competitors (in the mortgage industry). I called his office to inquire how I should proceed and Jim's staff scheduled a meeting with me Barney Frank and Congressman Langevin. The meeting lasted about two hours and my ideas were absorbed into the new rules and regulations that came out of the new mortgage regulations of 2009/2010. The hands-on treatment I received from Congressman Langevin and his very professional staff made me a lifelong supporter. He truly cares about Rhode Islanders AND he lives in Warwick.

    Happy Summer everyone.

I am sure Congressman Langevin -- a winner in multiple elections and highly-regarded elected official, unlike the make-believe mayor -- appreciates the support, though he may agree with honest, taxpaying voters in not thinking very highly of a past election loser and confirmed tax delinquent who gets other people to pay the taxes and sewer/water fees on his residence.

More unadulterated BS from the fake Mayor Dumbness. "He" wrote legislation for the mortgage industry, yet got trapped in a predatory loan, lost his house due to tax delinquency and foreclosure, and then was forcibly removed from the premises by the authorities.

If "he" wrote legislation, one would think that he could cut and paste "his" legislation, and then provide a link to the law. But in Mayor Dumbness fashion, he fails at every juncture, and to this date, has never been able to substantiate a single comment based upon fact and documents.

Still waiting the Mayor Dumbness to identify 1 single line item in the budget that he can cut and tell us how. Just one line item. Still waiting !!

I can't stop laughing. Rick Corrente "wrote legislation" yet he has never been acknowledged by anyone involved in the legislation process as having had ANYTHING to do with it. Just like he had nothing to do with the budget at any time in his life and just like he's had nothing to do with paying his taxes or water/sewer bills since 2014. As soon as it seems Rick Corrente is done embarrassing himself, he posts another ridiculous, made-up claim with no factual evidence whatsoever to support it. This is all to cover for the fact that he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Clearly there is no limit to what he'll take credit for next. Perhaps, the Moon landing, or even Social Security or Medicare. Thankfully, one thing he will never be taking credit for is winning an election for Mayor.

Great points as always, Thecaptain. Whatever imaginary bill the make-believe mayor "wrote," it certainly didn't prevent his own failures.

You know, Scal, in addition to being a tax delinquent, we've proven that the make-believe mayor is also a facts delinquent.

Thanks for the clarification, Thecaptain. Since it's Tuesday, I am sure that the make-believe mayor won't make further comments on this article and will instead look for new articles where he will try again to spread his false statements.

... And sure enough, the make-believe mayor used another honor roll article to make political statements in support of the WTU instead of addressing the many defects in his candidacy that we have presented: http://warwickonline.com/stories/toll-gate-announces-4th-quarter-honors,135331?
