Inaugural ceremonies set for Jan. 8 at City Hall


The inauguration of Mayor Scott Avedisian and City Council and School Committee members will take place on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. A ceremony will be held in the City Council Chambers at Warwick City Hall for the swearing in of council members Steven Colantuono, Thomas Chadronet, Camille Vella-Wilkinson, Joseph Solomon, Edgar Ladouceur, Donna Travis, Charles Donovan Jr., Joseph Gallucci and Steve Merolla. Jennifer Ahearn and Karen Bachus will be sworn in as the newest, citywide school committee members.

The Pawtuxet Rangers will conduct the prelude, followed by a procession of Police and Fire Honor Guards. FF William Tyler will perform the national anthem. Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisley, Bishop Episcopal Diocese, will deliver the invocation; Very Rev. Gomidas Baghsarian, Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, will deliver the prayer for public service; Rev. Robert Marciano will give the Benediction and Rabbi Leslie Gutterman will lead those gathered in prayer.

Judge Haiganush Bedrosian will swear the mayor into office, and the mayor will subsequently swear in the council and school committee members.

Remarks will be made by Governor Lincoln Chafee and Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts. There will be a musical performance by Cora McAuliffe as well.

Those attending are asked to bring a canned good donation in honor of the season.

In addition to the inauguration on Jan. 8, there will be a special Inaugural Service of Thanksgiving for the Mayor at Trinity Episcopal Church on Sunday, Jan. 6. The service is a celebration of the Epiphany, and will include special prayers for the mayor and the city of Warwick. Those who attend are asked to bring a canned good, as well.

On Jan. 5, there will be a special dinner in honor of the mayor following mass at St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church on Sandy Lane. Mass begins at 4 p.m. Tickets to the dinner are $25 and will benefit St. Kevin School. The dinner will be held in the church’s parish hall.
