Irving J. "Woodie" Wood

Irving J. "Woodie" Wood, 82, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at West Shore Health Center. He was the beloved husband of Lona (Culham) Wood with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 22, 2019.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Henry E. Wood and the late Eva (Nye) Wood. He served in the United States Air Force for four years stationed in the 681st Radar Squadron at Cut Bank Air Force Station in Cut Bank, Montana. For 50 years he was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and served as a former officer of Flotilla 1-706. Woodie worked as a machinist for American Insulated Wire in Pawtucket before becoming the owner and operator of IJ Wood & Sons Trucking Company. Woodie loved boating. He also enjoyed doing small projects around the house. He will be remembered as a man who would offer a helping hand with "that project" you are doing or give you a ride no matter how short or long to your destination.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Myron Wood & his wife Nancy and Kevin Wood & his wife Susan; four grandchildren: Matthew, Kaycee, Kevin & Steven Wood and two great grandchildren: Christian & Nora Wood, as well as his brother William Wood.

His services will be private.
