Jan. 16 fashion show to benefit Job Lot ‘3 square meal‘ program

The Laura Ink Fashion Show has always patterned itself as a showcase of innovative clothing styles paired with a worthy cause. This years show, planned for Saturday, Jan. 16 will benefit Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation’s Three Square Meals program, which provides assistance to food banks in eight states where Job Lot stores are located, including Rhode Island. The proceeds from this event will be directed to area food-based organizations.

Titled ELECTRONink: A Fashion Show Festival, the fifth annual Laura Ink event will be held at the Greenwich Odeum, 59 Main Street, East Greenwich. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 when purchased in advance online or $20 at the door.

ELECTRONink will feature the latest bohemian-inspired fashions from the Gossip Boutique of Wickford, Wakefield and Newport, and the Beatnik Boutique of Wakefield, both owned by Janelle Feigley. The boutiques are the largest provider of the Free People clothing brand in Rhode Island. The event is also based around the theme of a music festival and promises to be a kaleidoscope of sights and sounds that take their cue from colorful, global marketplaces and free-flowing, retro designs.

Laura Sarlitto, an East Greenwich-based photographer and videographer, is the creative force behind the Laura Ink fashion shows. She developed the annual event as a way of promoting the fashions of area boutiques, and also to involve students who are interested in modeling, photography, and staging fashion events.

“I started these shows five years ago as a way to give back during what is typically the off season for my photography business, and they have continuously grown into exciting and successful fundraisers,” said Sarlitto. “I chose to support Job Lot’s Three Square Meals program because I was impressed with how much food was donated last year – 109 tractor trailer loads to 15 food banks throughout the Northeast – and I want to help this expand even more.”

Ocean State Job Lot, a North Kingstown-based, closeout retailer with 120 stores in New England, New York, and New Jersey, developed its charitable Three Square Meals family meal assistance program 13 years ago to benefit food banks throughout the region. Together with in-store customer donations collected at the register each holiday season, Job Lot matches the first $100,000, and then leverages its wholesale buying power to purchase food at significant values. Over $1.4 million in food (a $4.2 million retail value) is then distributed to 15 food banks in eight states, with Job Lot paying for all operational support, delivery and related expenses, ensuring every dollar raised is used to buy food for local food pantries, soup kitchens and other meal assistance programs.

Tickets to ELECTRONink: A Fashion Show Festival are available online at laurainkphoto.wix.com/fashionshow2016 or at the door on the night of the event. For more information, call Laura Sarlitto at 340-7667.
