Writer Jane Austen was stunningly good at portraying ordinary people in everyday life and especially at telling tales of women pursuing social standing and security. Stylish movie versions of her first four novels will be shown at Warwick Public Library on Thursdays at 7 p.m. On February 14, enjoy Sense and Sensibility (1995), starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Impoverished sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood fall in love, one prudently and the other with intense passion. On February 21, watch Pride & Prejudice (2005), starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. Middle class Elizabeth Bennet and aristocratic landowner Fitzwilliam Darcy endure a turbulent relationship. On February 28, see Mansfield Park (1999), starring Frances O’Connor and Jonny Lee Miller. Poor but morally upstanding Fanny Price is sent to live with the rich Bertram family in their country home. On March 7, sit back for Emma (1996), starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam. Meddlesome Emma Woodhouse indulges in unsuccessful matchmaking for her friends and neighbors. For more information call 739-5440, x9758. The library is located at 600 Sandy Lane. This event is free and open to all.
