John J. McLaughlin Sr., 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and entered into eternal life to be reunited with the love of his life, Doreen M. (Coomer) McLaughlin. Doreen and John were married for 68 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Martin and Annie (McGuire) McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin was an elementary school teacher at the Robertson School in Warwick for 35 years, and a World War II Coast Guard Veteran. John was a graduate of St. Raphael Academy and URI where he played football and was Captain of both teams. He was a great conversationalist and never stopped teaching. His memory will be cherished by all those that knew him.

John was the loving father of Elizabeth A. Marcello (Gregory), John J. McLaughlin, Jr., Mary Beth McLaughlin, Joan M. McLaughlin-Sargoy (Kenneth), Patricia A. McLaughlin, and Margaret Mercurio (Joseph); loving grandfather of Brian, Courtney, Christopher, Allison, Sarah, and Joseph and loving great-grandfather of Matthew and Lucas. He was the brother of Margaret McCooey, Kathleen Gauthier, the late Jessie Siok and Mary Couch.

His funeral will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 9 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, Fair St. Burial will be in Mt.
