Joy to World Christmas concerts set by RI Civic Chorale


The Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra (RICCO), Rhode Island’s oldest continuing community choral ensemble, will present its “Joy to the World! Christmas” with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale Chamber Choir holiday concerts Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at The Redwood Library and Athenaeum, Newport, and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston.

The holiday program will include works by Palestrina, Praetorius, William Billings, J.S. Bach and John Rutter. Joining the Chamber Choir for its performance of Daniel Pinkham’s “Christmas Cantata” will be the Rhode Island College Symphony Orchestra Brass.

“The rich choral heritage of this area has been a gift to the entire country,” said Edward Markward, conductor and music director of RICCO. “We are proud to continue that wonderful tradition.”
