Kayla Marie Gilbert, age 30, of Timberlake, NC died peacefully at home on March, 15,2018. Kayla had Cystic Fibrosis and had two double lung transplants.

Born in Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of Vinny and Karen (Laprad) Boschetti, of Timberlake, NC and Mark Gilbert of Sterling, CT. Kayla attended URI, but had to relocate to NC for her second double lung transplant at Duke University Hospital in NC. After her transplant she attended Davidson Community College to study Animal Science. Her love for animals of any kind, was immeasurable, she could really connect with them.

She volunteered at the Warwick Animal Shelter and the Providence Rescue League while in RI. In NC, she volunteered at ENC shelter cats in Washington, NC, The Museum of Life and Science in Durham, NC, the Greensboro Science Center in Greensboro, NC, and the Conservators Center in Burlington, NC. She had worked so hard for an internship at the Duke Lemur Center, in Durham, NC. She did receive the internship but was unable to do due to her illness.

Besides her parents, she leaves a brother, Joe Boschetti of NC and two sisters: Courtney and Amanda of RI, and her grandparents, Mike and Diane Wilson, of RI, also, the late Gilbert and Alice Burnham of RI and the late Joe and Simone Budz of Florida. She is also survived by her godmother, Jean White of Florida and several aunts and uncles and cousins. She also leaves her fur babies: Owen James, Ophelia America and Chesney.

Her memorial service will be held, Thursday, April 5th, 2018 at 11:00 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave, Warwick, RI.

In lieu of flowers, Kayla would love it if people donated to an animal shelter or sanctuary of their choice in her honor. She would also want people to volunteer some of their time to walking dogs or playing with the cats at the local shelters or even donating supplies that they need in her honor. Her connection with animals, of any kind, was unbelievable. "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."
