Library film series features swindlers, con men in love
"Swindlers in Love: A Valentine’s Film Series for Con Men and Their Marks” will be presented at the Warwick Public Library Thursdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and 14 at 7 p.m.
On Jan. 31, the library will show “Trouble in Paradise” (1932), starring Herbert Marshall and Kay Francis. Thieves and lovers Gaston and Lily plan to steal a fortune from perfume heiress Mariette Colet, until Gaston falls for alluring Mariette, too.
“The Lady Eve” (1941), starring Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda. Beautiful card shark Jean Harrington falls in love with brewery heir Charles Pike on a cruise, but when he dumps her, she plans a delicious revenge. It will be aired Feb. 7.
Then on Feb. 14, the library will show “A New Leaf” (1971), starring Walter Matthau and Elaine May. After snobbish Henry Graham burns through his inheritance, he plans to acquire another by marrying and murdering sweet heiress Henrietta Lowell.
