Sometimes there are good reasons to hide your identity. Other times it’s for wicked purposes. See some of both in a movie musical film series about secret identities at Warwick Public Library on Thursdays at 7 p.m.
On January 18, see Singin’ in the Rain (1952), starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. As the sound era starts, aspiring actress Kathy Selden is called on to provide the voice for screechy, silent film star Lina Lamont.
On January 25, watch The Music Man (1962), starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. Con man Harold Hill arrives in River City to sell instruments and uniforms for a boy’s band before skipping town with the cash.
On February 1, enjoy Victor/Victoria (1982), starring Julie Andrews and James Garner. Struggling performer Victoria Grant finds success by pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman at a Paris cabaret.
On February 8, come for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Wrongly imprisoned ex-convict Sweeney Todd opens a barbershop to exact his vengeance on those who sent him to jail.
