Local youth take awards in ‘A Touch of Royalty’ pageant

Northeast Pageants of America and Northeast Scholarships of America held its scholarship and model event, called “A Touch of Royalty Pageant,” on March 24 at the Venus deMilo in Swansea, Massachusetts.

The pageant consisted of contestants from 1 month old through 19 years old. There were 200 contestants divided into different age and gender categories.

The winner of each age and gender group received a $300 scholarship, a trophy, a crown or scepter and a title. Runners-up and photogenic winners received special trophies.

The pageant featured prestigious casting directors and model agents, all looking for new faces for TV, film, commercials, advertisements, Broadway shows, musicals and theater. Agencies representing supermodels and famous singers and actors scouted for new faces as well.

Most of the contestants were trained by pageant director, coach and model Claudia Gizzarelli. She developed skits for those she trained. Gizzarelli was also the mistress of ceremonies and coordinated the songs that were played as the contestants walked the runway. She also scouted and recruited contestants, helping them to overcome self doubts. Mary, her mother, is also a director who signed the model and casting agents from New York, Boston and Rhode Island.

Among the agencies judging and scouting were Wilhelmina International of New York; MMG Model, Talent and Celebrity Management of New York; Exxcel Model and Talent of Boston and New York; Slate Casting of Boston; and Donahue Models and Talent of Rhode Island.

Wilhelmina prompted the careers of Angelica Houston, Isabella Rossellini, Chris Brown, Jessica Simpson, Nicki Minaj, Shawn Mendes, Patti Hansen and Whitney Houston.
