Ronald K. Machtley, President of Bryant University, will address the Class of 2018 at Rocky Hill School's commencement exercises, Friday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m.

Machtley became Bryant's president in 1996. Under his leadership, Bryant has experienced unprecedented growth throughout the organization. Machtley's pivotal contributions in areas including academic excellence, enrollment, campus expansion, and technology have established an exceptional foundation for continued success.

"Rocky Hill School is profoundly honored to welcome President Machtley as our 2018 Commencement Speaker," said Dr. James Tracy, Head of School. "He has been a visionary leader and immensely impactful leader throughout his career, an inspiring role model for our graduating students and the entire Rocky Hill community.

"It is a great honor to deliver the 2018 commencement address to the graduating class of Rocky Hill School," Machtley said in a statement. "Rocky Hill School is a great institution that very intentionally prepares its students for high levels of academic achievement in all their future endeavors."

Prior to assuming his duties at Bryant, Machtley served as a United States Congressman for the State of Rhode Island from 1989 to 1995.

A 1970 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Machtley earned a juris doctorate in 1978 from Suffolk University Law School. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy and retired as a captain from the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1995 after 25 years of service. From 1992 to 1995 he was a member of the Board of Visitors of the U.S. Naval Academy.

Machtley has served on the boards of several corporations, and many civic and charitable organizations including The Rhode Island Foundation and as the President of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council. In 2011, the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) recognized him for his exceptional leadership on behalf of higher education and the advancement of educational opportunity.
