To the Editor:
I was delighted to read about Goddard Park receiving a $1.7 million federal grant on the front page of the September 17 issue of the Warwick Beacon. Goddard Park is a fine venue with beach, golf, bridle paths, picnic grounds, carousel and more.
The major missing piece is a paved multi-use path for walking/biking. Right now, walkers and bikers have to share narrow roads with car traffic. It is treacherous for all – drivers and walkers alike. Perhaps the roads could be widened and the multi-use path carved out of road shoulder. Or, ideally, a separate path could be built in Goddard like the path at Colt State Park.
I hope concerned Warwick and state residents will contact DEM with their concerns. DEM manages state parks. Their email address is DEM.plan@dem.ri.gov and their website is www.
dem.ri.gov.
