Rep. Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston) is be co-hosting a public meeting with representatives of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to discuss the future of the historic Pawtuxet Bridge tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Hall, 2115 Broad Street, Cranston.

The bridge, which spans the Pawtuxet River at Broad Street, is one of several that will be part of a $30 million bridge preservation project scheduled to begin funding in 2022. It is an architectural centerpiece in the village of Pawtuxet, linking the cities of Warwick and Cranston. Residents will be allowed and encouraged to ask questions of the RIDOT representatives during the meeting.

McNamara said Thursday the bridge is showing signs of its age, but to his knowledge it remains structurally sound. Among his concerns are that the historic appearance of the bridge be retained and that any repairs take in consideration impacts on local businesses.
