Michael Kerrigan Sr., 90, died Sunday January 12, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Catherine “Kay” (Wisnom) Kerrigan.

Born in Slattaghmore, Ireland, he was one of 11 children to the late John J. and Mary (Donohue) Kerrigan. Michael immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 17 on the Queen Mary, entering at Ellis Island. He started his career in food service by working at McCarthy’s Deli, his aunt’s delicatessen. Soon after, he met his future wife, Catherine, at a dance. In 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. After his discharge, he married his wife Kay and opened Kerrigan’s Deli in North Kingstown, later opening Kerrigan’s Diner and Catering Service, which he ran until retiring in 1997. They had summered in Matunuck for many years and wintered in Boynton Beach, Florida following his retirement.

Michael had a wonderful sense of humor and was very well respected. He was a member and past president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and was a founder of the St. Patrick Day Parade in West Warwick. A fourth degree Knight, he was a member of the Warwick Knights of Columbus and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and Club Jaques.

He was the beloved father of Noreen Kerrigan Rosa, Mary Ellen Worrall, John Kerrigan and the late Michael Kerrigan Jr. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Thursday, January 16 at 9 a.m. from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St Kevin Church, Sandy Lane. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours are Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 4-7 p.m.
