Hurricanes take second

Seven middle school cross country made the trip to Rocky Point Park on Monday afternoon to compete in the RIPCOA Division Championships.

The meet was the final go-round prior to this weekend’s upcoming state championship meet, which will take place at East Greenwich High School on Sunday afternoon.

The Western Hills boys took home first place with an overall score of 47. Warwick Vets followed in second place with 50, while Winman took third with 80 points.

Park View finished in fourth place with 108, while Hope Highlands finished close behind in fifth with 123. Rounding out the standings was Coventry in sixth and Bain in seventh.

The Coventry Oakers took home first in the girls competition with an overall score of 31, while Vets finished second with 60 points.

Western Hills took home a third-place finish with a score of 71, followed by Hope Highlands in fourth with 102. Park View took fifth with 115, followed by Winman in sixth and Bain in seventh.

Here is a look at the top individual runners on Monday afternoon: BOYS

Western Hills’ Patrick McDonough placed first overall on the boys side, while Winman’s Joshua Maynard took home third place.

Jack Moretta placed fourth for the Cobras, while Winman’s John Maynard rounded out the top five. Henry Prendergast took sixth for Western Hills, followed by Hope Highlands’ Christian Mak in seventh and Vets’ Michael Hulkow in eighth.

Jake Greene placed ninth for Hope Highlands while Vets’ John Kelly rounded out the top 10.

Winman’s Jamie Luna took 11th place, followed by Vets’ Jack McConnell in 12th and Liam Holmes in 13th.

Western Hills got a 14th-place finish from Evan Lei, while Park View’s Don Alvarez finished behind him in 15th.

Trevor DiPanni took 16th for Winman, followed by Vets’ Tyler Boudreau in 17th. Elijah Curren placed 18th for the Cobras.

Logan Johnson placed 19th for Hope Highlands, followed by Ben Evans for Park View in 21st. Daniel Prendergast placed 23rd for Western Hills, while Jordan Lopes took 24th for Vets.

Ethan Fower took 25th for Park View while Michael Bryson finished 26th for the Hurricanes. GIRLS

Courtney Rice took home a first-place finish for Hope Highlands, while Vets’ Keaney Bayha placed third.

Quiana Pezza placed fifth for Western Hills, while Taylor Tatariau followed in seventh for the Hurricanes. Amy Zhang finished eighth for Hope Highlands, followed by Park View’s Maddison Dutra in 10th.

Mia Crudale took home a 12-place finish for Western Hills, while Holly Cameron took 13th for Vets. Julia Saccoccio also finished in 14th for the Lady Cobras.

Talia Petit placed 16th for Western Hills while Vets’ Marin Prest took 18th. Marisa Rayhill finished 19th for Winman, while Park View’s Caroline Brennick rounded out the top-20.

Vets’ Savannah Pacheco took 21st, followed by teammate Jacqueline Buffey in 22nd. Western Hills’ Juliana Andrus took 23rd while teammate Abigail Newton placed 24th.
