Former Pilgrim standout safety Josh Morin accomplished his goal of playing at the collegiate level, as is finishing up his first-ever college camp with the Division III Endicott Gulls in Beverley, Mass.

Making the jump from high school to college is never easy, but Morin feels that he has made steady progress and is growing more comfortable in the new system.

“At first it was a little difficult adjusting to it, adjusting to the new atmosphere. There’s a big difference between high school and college. It took me a day or two to get used to the high-tempo stuff but I’m really settling in now. I feel good about where I am now on the team,” said Morin.

Morin feels that there is some added pressure considering he is new to the team. Whether it is catching up to speed with the playbook, adjusting to the game speed, or simply showing that he can hang with the upperclassmen, Morin feels that he needs to continue to put his best foot forward.

“I have to push myself every single day because I am a freshman. I have to prove myself to these coaches and if there’s something I’m not doing well I need to focus on that and improve on it. The playbook was a little difficult to learn since it was a new offense and something that I wasn’t familiar with. Every night when I got home from practice or a night meeting I needed to go over the playbook a few times. I’ve finally gotten used to it and it’s a lot better,” said Morin.

Although he played safety in high school and was recruited as a defensive back, the Gulls initially decided to give him a go at the receiver position. However, due to injuries in the secondary, he recently returned to the defensive side of the ball.

“I’ll do whatever I have to to help the team. When they said that I was going to be a receiver at first, I was a little worried but was able to adjust. When they told me I was switching back to defense I was excited because defense is what I played in my high school career. I know that I can play that side of the ball well,” said Morin.

Endicott will open its season at Framingham State on Sept. 1. Morin is excited to get his feet wet and experience his first college action, regardless of the role he starts out in.

“I’m excited to get the season underway. All summer I have been anxious about getting up here. I’m anxious to see how we’re going to be,” said Morin, who also feels that the Gulls have a high ceiling in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. “It should be a promising season with all of the talent that we have on the team, the coaching staff is very committed to us having a great season. I know my place on the team, whether it be helping special teams or whatever, but I’ll do whatever I have to in order to help the team win.”
