The Albertus Magnus women’s soccer team has a pair of Pilgrim alumnae in their ranks this fall, with both former Patriots playing their part in the Falcons’ high-powered attack. At the tip of the spear is junior forward Katherine Raposo, who transferred from CCRI prior to the start of the campaign and has hit the ground running with a team-leading 13 goals to her name. She has chalked up a pair of hat tricks, putting three past Mitchell on September 5 and doing likewise against Northern Vermont-Lyndon 10 days later, with Albertus Magnus putting double digits past each opponent. The latter effort against the Hornets was brutally efficient, with Raposo scoring the first three goals of the match inside the opening 13 minutes as the Falcons swooped to an 11-1 rout. Her prowess in front of goal has also attracted the attention of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, who named Raposo its player of the week twice in a row in recognition of her performances. Not to be outdone, Mercedes Faust has also had ample opportunity to showcase her skills, although, unlike Raposo, she has exclusively featured from the bench. Faust got her season going with the Falcons’ only goal in the team’s season-opening 5-1 defeat to Elms on August 30, before joining Raposo among the goalscorers in the aforementioned meeting with Mitchell, which ended in a 10-0 demolition of the Mariners. She also assisted on Sophia Austin’s first goal of the match in the 33rd minute of the Northern Vermont-Lyndon tilt, putting Austin on the path to equal Raposo’s haul for the day. As of Monday, Faust has three goals and an assist in total. The Falcons most recently tied Norwich 2-2 and sit at 5-4-1 overall on the season. They will next take on Anna Maria on Wednesday.
