The setting is the 1920s and the heyday of the speakeasy. The music and lyrics are by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and the energy is provided by the Pilgrim Players.

The show, Nice Work If You Can Get It, opens Friday at 7 p.m. at Pilgrim High School and, if Monday’s dress rehearsal is any indication, come prepared for lots of dancing and singing and, when you might least expect it, Michael Harmon, who plays the lead character Jimmy Winter leaping across stage.

Sets for this lively performance are effective. They include a giant bathtub that promises to yield more than bubbles. Building the bathtub was a challenge, says English teacher and director Richard Denningham, as so much had to fit into it.

Performances will also be held Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets at $10 for adults and $5 for students may be purchased at the door.

In addition to Harmon, the cast includes Abbey Spolidoro as Billie Bendix; Tayvon Pimentel as Cookie McGee; Connor Williams as Duke Mahoney; Sylvia Wysor as Eileen Evergreen; Christian Tanguay as Senator Max Evergreen; Giana Amaral as Estonia Dulworth, Duchess of Woodford; Haley Marchetti as Jeannie Muldoon; Andreas deBont as Chief Berry and Grace Pine as Millicent Winter.

In the role of chorus girls are: Sydney Blair, Alyssa Matos, Deyana Underwood, Brianna Callahan, Kara Lee, Emily Corbett, Kylie Powers, Mariah Hunt, Shelby Ritchie, Abigail Larson and Maddy Vegliante. Playing the vice squad are: Emmy Battista, Kayley Hollingshead, Jackson Bazarnick, Brian McKenna, Alyssa Gould and Cheyenne Ravello.

Oh, and did we forget, be prepared to tap your feet. There’s a lot of tapping going on.
