Authorities: Men kidnapped, sexually assaulted 14-year-old girl

Two men have been charged in connection with the 2014 kidnapping and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, and the case has a tie to Johnston.

Rhode Island State Police and the office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin in recent days announced the indictment and arrest of Robert Perry, 57, of 12 Eleanor Drive in Coventry, and Lloyd “Paul” Baker, 53, of 131 Legris Ave., Apt. C, in West Warwick.

Perry is charged with kidnapping of a minor, four counts of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, and conspiracy for the enticement of a child. Baker is charged with first-degree sexual assault, conspiracy to commit sexual assault, and conspiracy for the enticement of a child.

The indictment was reported out on Nov. 4, and the men were arrested on Nov. 9. They both pleaded not guilty and were ordered held without bail at their arraignment that day in Kent County Superior Court.

Authorities say on or about Aug. 21, 2014, Perry enticed the victim – who was out jogging – into his vehicle, drove her to a Johnston motel, and proceeded to sexually assault her multiple times. Perry is alleged to have then driven the victim to a residence in West Warwick, where Baker is accused of sexually assaulting her.

The two men then allegedly dropped the victim off at the Providence bus station. She was reportedly found two weeks later in New York City.

The State Police Major Crimes Unit, West Warwick police, and Coventry detectives conducted the investigation jointly.

Johnston woman indicted in Smithfield robbery

A Johnston woman has been indicted in connection with an August robbery in Smithfield.

Danielle Garofalo, 25, of 7 Elmgrove Ave., is charged with one count each of first-degree robbery, conspiracy, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to rob.

The indictment was reported out by the Providence County Grand Jury last week, and Garofalo is scheduled for arraignment Dec. 2 in Providence Superior Court.

According to the office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, it is alleged that on or about Aug. 9 of this year, Garofalo conspired along with a male suspect to commit a robbery, and proceeded to rob an individual. The two are alleged to have then assaulted a second individual with a tire iron, and assaulted a third individual with intent to rob that person.
