On Sept. 17 at approximately 5:05 p.m. Officer Timothy Tavares responded to the Balise Toyota on Post Road for the report of an assault in progress. It was reported that the incident stemmed from road rage, which resulted in one man pulling another man out of his car and hitting him.

The reporting party had given the registration of the man’s car who had committed the assault, which came back to Robert Judge, 53, of 187 Park Ave. in Cranston. Judge had fled the scene by the time the officer got there, though the victim was still there.

The victim said that after a brief road rage incident on Post Rd., involving vulgarities and obscene gestures from both men, Judge got out of his vehicle and attempted to pull the victim out of his car. He said Judge then left the scene and went into the Balise Toyota parking lot, at which point the victim followed him in and got out of his vehicle to start recording on his phone.

He said Judge then pushed him and knocked the phone out of his hand, then took the phone and threw it on the ground before driving away.

The victim showed the officers the video on his phone which showed Judge appearing to push him. Officer Tavares also confirmed it was Judge in the video through his license photo in the system. The victim said he would like to press charges for the assault.

Multiple officers then drove to Judge’s address on Park Ave., where they found him in his home. They took him into custody and brought him to police headquarters.

There, Judge was charged with Simple Assault and Disorderly Conduct, and he was then released with a court summons.

The video showed him getting into the 2016 BMW M3 and he appeared to have popped off the gray shaft knob with the boot in the car, which was valued at $420.

A copy of the video surveillance could not be taken yet, but the dealership was going to send it in within a few days. There was nothing further to report and a complaint was taken.

I am really glad to hear that someone was caught and charged for the road rage incident. The proliferation of youtube videos of road rage has been very eye-opening for me. It appears as if people don't think there will be any repercussions to their behavior. This time, thankfully, the person was caught and will be responsible for his actions.
