DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

On Oct. 19 at approximately 10:19 p.m. Officer William Holz was dispatched to assist Officer Jacob Elderkin, who had stopped a vehicle on Post Rd. for driving erratically and without its headlights on.

Officer Holz immediately observed the driver, identified as James Moore, 34, of 73 Comstock Ave. Apt. #2 in Providence, was unsteady on his feet.  Officer Elderkin had suspected he was under the influence of alcohol as well, and Moore was asked to a do a series of field sobriety tests.

During those tests, the officer observed nearly all clues indicating that Moore was impaired.  Due to this, Moore was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to police headquarters, where he agreed to take chemical B.A.C. tests.

During the chemical tests, Moore tested at .141 and .134 B.A.C.  He was then charged with DUI of Drugs or Alcohol .10-.15 B.A.C., 1st Offense.  He was given court summons and released to a sober adult.

On Oct. 22 at approximately 2:02 a.m. Officer Christopher Cote saw a vehicle driving on Bald Hill Rd. with one of its headlights dim, so he followed it and observed the driver to be driving semi-erratically.  He pulled it over.

The driver was identified as Brooks Austin, 25, of 337 Cowesett Ave. Apt. #300A in West Warwick.  Brooks old the officer he was coming from work and he went to go get food at Taco Bell on his way home.  He said he was trying to eat while driving and that’s why he was swerving.

The officer observed Brooks to have slurred speech and an alcoholic odor coming from his breath.  Brooks said he had one beer that night when asked how much he had to drink.

Brooks agreed to a series of field sobriety tests, during which the officer observed nearly all clues indicating that Brooks was impaired.  He was transported to police headquarters, where he took chemical B.A.C. tests.

Brooks tested at .120 and .119 B.A.C. during the chemical tests.  He was then charged with DUI of Liquor or Drugs .10-.15 B.A.C. 1st Offense and released o a sober adult with court summons.

LARCENY

On Oct. 20 at approximately 4:15 a.m. Officer Kyle Fitzsimmons responded to the report of a larceny from a vehicle that had happened at Winslow Field earlier in the day.  The reporting party said that she had left her vehicle unlocked for just five minutes and her wallet was stolen.

The wallet had a variety of cards in it.  The victim said if a suspect was found she would like to press charges.

On Oct. 21 at approximately 2:03 p.m. Officer Rose Michel responded to the report of larceny from a vehicle that was at the Hilton Garden Inn on Thurber St.

The victim said the driver’s side mirror of her vehicle, valued at $800, was stolen from her car.  She provided a written statement and the officer responded to hotel management for possible surveillance footage.

On Oct. 21 Officer Tammy Mello responded to St. Gregory Church on Cowesett Rd. for the report of three vehicle larcenies that had taken place during mass.

The victims said that their car windows had been smashed and the purses, wallets, and one cell phone were stolen from the three cars.  The officer was going to follow up with the church for possible surveillance footage.

On Oct. 24 at approximately 1:24 p.m. Officer Michael Walker responded to the Inskip BMW dealership on Bald Hill Rd. for the report of stolen items from their showroom.

The manager said that two suspicious males had come in the day before, and he was later told that a BMW watch, valued at $800, a BMW wallet, valued at $100, and a BMW baseball hat, valued at $35, were all taken from the showroom.

The video surveillance showed the two males taking the items, and surveillance from the parking lot showed them looking in cars but not take anything else.  The dealership said they’d like to press charges if the suspects were found.  The case was forwarded to detectives, along with a still picture of the car the suspects of driving in, which was a Mercedes Benz ML350, though the photo did not show a license plate number.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

On Oct. 23 at approximately 7:56 a.m. Officer Russell Brown responded to the report of a female disturbing the peace at the Mobil Gas Station on Jefferson Blvd.

The reporting party said that a female had deliberately drove towards him in the gas station and ran over product he had dropped (he was delivering products to the gas station), and then drove away.

The product he had dropped was case of diesel exhaust fluid, and the backstory was that the female had parked blocking the store, and when he asked her to move she refused, according to the reporting party.  He also said she threatened to run him and the product over, so he stepped out of the way as she ran over the case of exhaust fluid.  He said she drove away and he ran after the car to get its license plate, and she then turned around and tried to “run him over.”

The three cases that got run over were valued at $20 each.  The reporting party said he would like to press charges.  The officer observed video surveillance footage of the incident and put it in evidence.  The report was forwarded to detectives.  The suspect was unidentified, as the license plate information provided did not come back to anyone. SHOPLIFTING

On Oct. 21 at approximately 7:02 p.m. multiple officers responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for the report of a shoplifting in progress.

Dispatch said the suspect had left in a white pickup truck and was traveling in the parking lot, and one of the officers then pulled it over.

Inside the vehicle were a male juvenile and a female passenger, later identified as Taylor Prout, 18, of 364 Curtis Corner Rd. in South Kingstown.  The loss prevention associate at Macy’s said the two had paid for some, but not all the merchandise they had taken from store.

Prout had taken a $59 t-shirt without paying for it.  She was taken to police headquarters, where she was charged with Shoplifting – Misdemeanor and released with a court summons.

On Oct. 24 at approximately 6:18 p.m. Officer Anthony D’Abrosca responded to the Macy’s at the Warwick Mall for the report of two shoplifters in custody with loss prevention.

The two females were identified as Alexa Moore, 19, of 1574 Elmwood Ave. Apt. #2 in Cranston and Aleza Moore, 19, of 1574 Elmwood Ave. Apt. #2 in Cranston. 

The loss prevention associate said that the two females had gone around to different sections of the store and taken clothing items. Alexa Moore had tried taking two men’s Tommy Hilfiger sweatshirts, valued at $128.50, and Aleza Moore had tried taking a Tommy Hilfiger shirt and another t-shirt, valued totally at $61.50.

The two females were taken to police headquarters, where they were both charged with Shoplifting – Misdemeanor and released with  court summonses.
