SHOPLIFTING

At 8 p.m. on June 9, Officer Justin N. Martin responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

Dispatch advised that the suspected had taken multiple items – including a mini bike, girls clothing, children’s shoes and a gas can – and left the scene in a green Dodge truck with Rhode Island commercial registration.

A loss prevention associate at the store told Martin that the suspect had been observed in the store with a young girl. The man is said to have concealed various items in Walmart shopping bags before exiting through the lawn and garden center, passing all points of purchase. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $535.80.

On June 13, Detective Matthew T. Smith conducted a follow-up investigation. He identified the owner associated with the registration of the truck in which the shoplifting suspect had left the scene. Using security camera footage and an image from a police database, he identified the vehicle’s owner as the shoplifting suspect. An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect on a charge of shoplifting.

On Aug. 13, Smith responded to the Adult Correctional Institutions to process Richard Shea, 38, 36 Greenhill St., West Warwick, on the arrest warrant.

Just before 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 10, Officer Tomas Bogusz responded to the Walmart at 840 Post Road for a report of shoplifting.

At the scene, Bogusz found loss prevention personnel at the store had a suspect in custody.

The suspect is said to have been observed removing UPC codes from four items – all of which were on sale for 88 cents – and affixing them to more expensive items. The suspect then paid for the items at the incorrect prices before exiting the store, at which point she was met by loss prevention. Walmart valued the loss at $41.64.

Rose Coste, 31, 630 Dyer Ave., second floor, Cranston, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. She was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 10, Officer Gerard J. DiTomasso responded to the Target location at 1245 Bald Hill Road for a report of shoplifting.

Upon arrival, a loss prevention officer met DiTomasso and directed him to the suspect, who was pushing a shopping cart toward the back of the store. The suspect was then taken into custody.

The loss prevention officer told DiTomasso that the suspect had been identified based on an attempted shoplifting incident at the Target location at 400 Bald Hill Road. The suspect is said to have selected three packages of diapers, a sound bar and an LG television – items with a combined value of nearly $540 – before exiting the store without making any attempt to pay.

Jeremy Plourde, 26, 179 Slater Ave., Pawtucket, was arrested on a charge of shoplifting and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Aug. 14, Officer Brian J. Holleran responded to the Walmart at 650 Bald Hill Road for a report of a shoplifting incident in progress.

Dispatch advised that asset protection personnel at the store had attempted to stop a male suspect, who was last seen running from the area.

At the scene, Holleran made contact with a asset protection associate, who indicated he had seen the suspect hide behind a dumpster. The suspect was then located and taken into custody.

The asset protection associate told Holleran that the suspect had been observed removing security packaging from a Roomba vacuum before rushing out of the store without making any attempt to pay for the item. When confronted at the store’s exit, the suspect is said to have dropped the vacuum and continued outside.

Shawn Patrick Ferris, 46, 30 Howard Ave., Cranston, was arrested on charges of shoplifting and shoplifting as a habitual offender. He was transported to Kent Hospital to receive medical attention.

LARCENY

At 2:22 p.m. on Aug. 6, Officer Thomas J. Duncan responded to Doyle Sails at 1 Division St. for a report of larceny. At the scene, the owner of the business told Duncan that the catalytic converted had been taken from one of the work vans sometime between the night of Aug. 2 and the morning of Aug. 6. The owner said similar incidents occurred at the location earlier this year. No security camera footage was available. The matter was documented.

SUSPENDED/NO LICENSE

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Aug. 11, Officer Jordan P. Guyton was conducting a routine patrol on Airport Road when he observed a green 2002 Acura with a headlight out.

A records check revealed the registration for the vehicle had been canceled, and Guyton initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Guyton made contact with the operator and sole passenger. A records check found that the operator’s diver’s license was suspended, and that he had previously been convicted of driving with a suspended license on more than three previous occasions.

Mark Pope, 33, 130 Burn St., Apt. 1A, Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving with a suspended license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

Pope was additionally cited for operating a vehicle with a canceled registration. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third District Court.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 12, Officer Ryan E. Shibley observed a black 2002 Cadillac Deville traveling north on Warwick Avenue near the Hoxsie Four Corners intersection.

The vehicle’s rear registration plate was partially obscured, and an initial check based on Shibley’s initial reading of the plate was associated with a different vehicle.

Shibley initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Squantum Drive and determined the correct registration for the vehicle, which came back in the name of the operator’s wife. The operator told the officer he did not have a license, and a records check revealed the operator had at least two previous convictions for driving without a license.

Jose Diaz, 40, 177 Messer St., Apt. 3, Providence, was arrested on a charge of driving without a license, third or subsequent offense, and transported to Warwick Police headquarters for processing.

Diaz was additionally cited for display of registration plates. He was later released with a summons to appear in Third Division District Court.

If all of these "Geniuses" would read these reports on here I wonder if they would be so ready to tempt their fate at the "five finger discount?"
