Raymond J. Pendergast, 87, passed away February 21, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Home. He was the beloved husband of Audrey T. (Broadbent) Pendergast for 62 years.

Born in Cranston; he was a son of the late John and Lillian (Bailey) Pendergast. Ray, known as Mr. P, was employed as a Groundskeeper with the City of Warwick at Tollgate High School for 28 years and retired in 1996. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, member of the William Shields American Legion Post #43, VFW Surprise-Woolhouse #329, East Greenwich Fire Hall, Warwick F.O.P #7, Meat Cutters Union #328, Warwick Independent School Employees, Triple-A Hardball and a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. An outstanding fastball pitcher he played for Imperial Knife, Coro’s, Sammy K’s, Ken-Mac and Greenwood Inn Softball teams. Ray was known for his contagious smile, good nature and positive outlook on life.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Raymond J. Pendergast, Jr (Ret. Detective WPD) (Kim); daughters Nancy J. McDevitt (Kevin), Jane M. Pendergast (Lori Sheehan) and Beth Madden (Tim); a sister Claire Duffy; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John, Edward, Thomas, Charles, James Pendergast, Mary Landry and Rita Johnson.

His funeral was held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 8:45 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Jefferson Blvd. at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours were Sunday.
