Join Christopher Scott Martin and David Norton Stone for a presentation on Rhode Island Clam Shacks at Warwick Public Library on Wednesday, June 13 at 7 p.m.
In the 1800s, steamships carried hungry travelers up and down Narragansett Bay to clambakes and shore dinner halls, and in the 20th century, Rhode Islanders hopped in their automobiles for clam cakes and chowder at clam shacks and chowder houses at the beach and on the waterfront.
See historic photos of local eateries in the past and present, and hear tales of the time-honored recipes that bring long lines to take-out windows every summer.
Christopher Scott Martin is the curator of the website Quahog.org. David Norton Stone is the author of “Clamcake Summer,” “Stuffie Summer,” and “Chowder Summer.” They are co-authors of “Rhode Island Clam Shacks.”
For more information, call 739-5440, x9758. The library is located at 600 Sandy Lane. This event is free and open to all.
