On Saturday, July 21, cancer survivors, family, friends, members of the community and running enthusiasts are invited to take part in the Lifespan Cancer Institute’s Rising Above Cancer Walk/5K at Warwick City Park. The fun-filled, family-friendly day begins at 7 a.m. with onsite registration and race packet pickup, and features a variety of course options for people of all ages and ability. Online registration is now open.
Funds raised through the event will benefit the Lifespan Cancer Institute’s Patient Assistance Fund, which serves to help ease the financial burden of patients’ cancer treatment in a multitude of ways.
The day’s schedule includes a chip-timed USA Track & Field certified 5K course race with a cash prize for the first male and female finisher. There is also a non-timed 5K walk, a non-timed three-quarter-mile walk, and Kids Race courses. A full schedule of course start times can be found online. Participants who register prior to June 30 will receive a moisture wicking t-shirt.
Fun, family activities begin at 9 a.m. and continue through 11 a.m. Post-race festivities include an awards ceremony; free skin exams courtesy of University Dermatology; a cooking demonstration by Rhode Island’s favorite TV chef, Chef Frank Terranova; complementary massage therapy; face-painting; and a number of children’s activities.
