Robert Anthony Donnelly Sr., 94, of Warwick, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. He was the loving husband of the late Winifred M. (Staggs) Donnelly.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Lewis J. and Eileen R. (McWeeney) Donnelly. Robert proudly served his country in combat during World War II in the Philippines. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree and worked as an architectural engineer for C.E. Maguire Inc. until his retirement in 1990.
He was an avid artist and a member of the Wickford Art Association and the Newport Art Group. In addition to his appreciation of art, Robert enjoyed reading and his visits to the Pontiac Library.
He is survived by his beloved children, Robert Donnelly Jr. of Warwick, Patricia E. Phelps of Coventry and Mary K. Rayhill of Warwick; two brothers, Daniel Donnelly of Maryland and Edward C. Donnelly of Florida; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A gathering of Robert’s family was held at Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave, Warwick, on Monday, July 29. Interment with military honors followed at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. For information and guest book visit www.murphyfuneralhomes.org.
