Robert D. “Hoagie” Houghton, 69, died Monday, October 29, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Alma J. (Sweeney) Houghton.

He was a son of the late Douglas Houghton and the late Elsie L. (Brown) Houghton, and nephew of the late Wilfred Brown. Bob was a self-employed contractor for most of his life until he retired due to illness. He was a Vietnam veteran serving 2 tours of duty with the 191st Assault Helicopter Company, 4th Infantry Division as a Huey mechanic and door gunner in the Pleku Province. He received 2 air combat medals and 3 Bronze Stars for combat missions, which were mostly at night, where his craft would defend troops under attack by the North Vietnamese.

Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter Brandy L. Alibrio and her husband Matteo, and his son Robert D. Houghton, Jr. He is also survived by his step-daughters Alea C. French, and Kerry M. Caringi; grandchildren, Dante and Cole Alibrio, Melissa, Jack, Nicholas, and Kayla Houghton; great-granddaughter Maci Lynn Houghton; siblings, Edward and Douglas Houghton, Joyce Dolan, Lynne Morrison, and Hope Whitcomb. He was also the brother of the late Dan and Ernie Houghton, Linda Preston and Judith Mather.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. followed by a service with military honors at 11 a.m. in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Information and condolences, visit TheQuinnFuneralHome.com
